Goal setting is the key to having a better year...

Video duration is 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

I love New Year’s because it’s a time of “do overs.” To have a better year than you had last year you need to make some adjustments. If you keep doing things the same way, you’ll keep getting the same results. That’s why every holiday season, I block off time to evaluate the last year and to make plans for the new.

I want to ask you a few questions as you go into 2016.

  1. What are two are three things that worked well for you…not just things that you want to repeat, but things that you’d like to improve on?
  2. What are things that didn’t go well…things that would be absolutely a waste of time to repeat in 2016…things that you need to trim out of your schedule?
  3. What are two or three brand new territories that you’d like to conquer?

Write your lists down and create specific goals from them. Your goals must be:

  • Specific as possible – Don’t say “I want to lose some weight.” Say, “I will lose 25 lbs, by March 1st.”
  • Measurable – How will you measure your success? If your goal is weight loss will you use scale weight, dress or pant size, fat %, etc.?
  • Attainable – Don’t set yourself up for failure. Choose a goal that stretches you but is doable.
  • Relevant – Your goal must be consistent with who you are and with the overall direction of your life.
  • Time specific – Create a concrete start and end date for reaching this goal.

This is the formula for SMART goals. Here are a few additional tips that have also served me well.

  1. Write your goals down – This will greatly increase your chances of success.
  2. Find a reliable person to hold you accountable…someone that will not buy into excuses or be too easy on you.

I want to encourage you to plan so you can live your life intentionally and strategically. I’d be happy to work on this with you. In fact, that’s why I wrote Becoming a Fearless Leader, which you can access for free.

Please leave your comments below! Tell me one or more plans that you have have for a better year.

Blessings,

Coach Randy

Are you being intentional/comment-page-1/

There is power in choosing intention over reaction...

Video duration is 4 minutes and 12 seconds.

Often when I begin coaching a new client I discover they are going through the motion of life. I’ve seen it so many times, it doesn’t surprise me anymore. People react to what the world requires of them…driving to and from work, going to their children’s practices, getting involved in social activities, but often without any meaningful strategic thinking or planning. Many people default where life leads them.

When we begin the coaching process I begin to see a spark of life. None of us can really be satisfied going through the motions of life. We’re not wired for that. We are built to be fruitful, to multiply our fruit, to take dominion over our circumstance and to subdue our challenges and problems. When we stop doing these things discouragement, depression and disappointment begin to settle in.

I want to encourage you today to make a conscious choice to grow and to lead. Decide where you want to lead your life. Where do you want to lead your children? Decide where you want your marriage to go. Where do you want to be career-wise in the next three to five years?

Many people unfortunately assume that growth is automatic. We don’t have to do anything to physically grow. Because of this, people assume that spiritual, mental and emotional growth…leadership development is automatic. The same things that cause intentional leaders to grow, cause others to be set back and to walk in circles.

I want to encourage you to be intentional today. I’d be happy to work on this with you. In fact, that’s why I wrote Becoming a Fearless Leader, which you can access for free.

Would you please take a moment to tell me about times when you were or were not intentional and the impact that this had on your life? Leave your comments below.

You are designed to be extraordinary

Many people hide behind "normal"

Video duration is 4 minutes and 47 seconds.

You are extraordinary. Why do so many people strive to be normal?

The three fundamental points of fearless leadership are that you are extraordinary, built for abundance and designed to make a contribution to the world. Today, let’s talk about what it means to be extraordinary. Many people don’t feel special.

The idea of being extraordinary is not flattery. I’m not trying to “blow smoke” by saying this about you. The same things that some people  use as excuses for not moving forward, others will use to learn more about themselves, others and life. They will choose to grow through their opposition.

Extraordinary means that you are one of a kind. There is no one else that has your exact genetic makeup. Your physical, emotional, mental and spiritual traits are unique. No one else has your exact experience; experiences that have made you passionate about certain things. No one else has your exact skill set. Your talents are unique. This is just scratching the surface of your uniqueness. These things combined give you a unique genius. Potentially you can do things that no one else can because of this genius.

Perhaps you see your life as a series of mistakes. I don’t think that every situation is life is good but I do believe each situation, used correctly can accomplish something good. We need to learn to take the good, bad and ugly of our lives and realize that combined, they give us an extraordinary identity. They potentially give us the ability to reach and touch a sphere of influence that no one else can and to influence that sphere in a unique way.

SO this is my reminder to you that you are extraordinary! I hope you remember this and keep your head up today. I hope it’s a great day for you.
