Goal setting is the key to having a better year...

Video duration is 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

I love New Year’s because it’s a time of “do overs.” To have a better year than you had last year you need to make some adjustments. If you keep doing things the same way, you’ll keep getting the same results. That’s why every holiday season, I block off time to evaluate the last year and to make plans for the new.

I want to ask you a few questions as you go into 2016.

  1. What are two are three things that worked well for you…not just things that you want to repeat, but things that you’d like to improve on?
  2. What are things that didn’t go well…things that would be absolutely a waste of time to repeat in 2016…things that you need to trim out of your schedule?
  3. What are two or three brand new territories that you’d like to conquer?

Write your lists down and create specific goals from them. Your goals must be:

  • Specific as possible – Don’t say “I want to lose some weight.” Say, “I will lose 25 lbs, by March 1st.”
  • Measurable – How will you measure your success? If your goal is weight loss will you use scale weight, dress or pant size, fat %, etc.?
  • Attainable – Don’t set yourself up for failure. Choose a goal that stretches you but is doable.
  • Relevant – Your goal must be consistent with who you are and with the overall direction of your life.
  • Time specific – Create a concrete start and end date for reaching this goal.

This is the formula for SMART goals. Here are a few additional tips that have also served me well.

  1. Write your goals down – This will greatly increase your chances of success.
  2. Find a reliable person to hold you accountable…someone that will not buy into excuses or be too easy on you.

I want to encourage you to plan so you can live your life intentionally and strategically. I’d be happy to work on this with you. In fact, that’s why I wrote Becoming a Fearless Leader, which you can access for free.

Please leave your comments below! Tell me one or more plans that you have have for a better year.

Blessings,

Coach Randy

Christ is the center of life and of Christmas...

Video duration is 2 minutes and 32 seconds.

As everyone knows, it’s Christmas time. There’s a lot going on in the world in 2015. Much of it is not good. I suppose, however that every age has had to contend with evil people and their devices. That stresses that we experience are not new to the world.

That’s why I’m glad that 2000 years ago a solution to these things was born in a manger under the most humble of circumstance.

Lately I’ve been posting a lot of things about fearless leadership. I believe that anyone can be a fearless leader. Ultimately however there is a single road that will take you their. There is only one thing powerful enough to deliver us from fear and that is a supernatural, unconditional love. Perfect love casts out fear. It’s love that’s not based on our imperfect performance or merit.

This supernatural love was personified in the life that was born in the stable that day. It’s doubtful that Jesus was born in December, but that doesn’t matter. This is always a magical time of year. As much as humanists would like to remove Christ from Christmas, it’s His his Spirit always makes this a wonderful time. This is in spite of how many reject the reason for the season.

I realize it’s more politically correct today to say, “Happy Holidays,” than Merry Christmas out of fear of offending someone. I also realize that Christ is the only source powerful enough to quench fears that used to control me. It’s been an amazing journey for me; one of progressively coming out of fear to know a life of increased fearless leadership.

That’s why I want to wish you a blessed Christmas season full of Christ’s loving presence as well as a blessed New Year. I’ll see you in 2016!

There is power in choosing intention over reaction...

Video duration is 4 minutes and 12 seconds.

Often when I begin coaching a new client I discover they are going through the motion of life. I’ve seen it so many times, it doesn’t surprise me anymore. People react to what the world requires of them…driving to and from work, going to their children’s practices, getting involved in social activities, but often without any meaningful strategic thinking or planning. Many people default where life leads them.

When we begin the coaching process I begin to see a spark of life. None of us can really be satisfied going through the motions of life. We’re not wired for that. We are built to be fruitful, to multiply our fruit, to take dominion over our circumstance and to subdue our challenges and problems. When we stop doing these things discouragement, depression and disappointment begin to settle in.

I want to encourage you today to make a conscious choice to grow and to lead. Decide where you want to lead your life. Where do you want to lead your children? Decide where you want your marriage to go. Where do you want to be career-wise in the next three to five years?

Many people unfortunately assume that growth is automatic. We don’t have to do anything to physically grow. Because of this, people assume that spiritual, mental and emotional growth…leadership development is automatic. The same things that cause intentional leaders to grow, cause others to be set back and to walk in circles.

I want to encourage you to be intentional today. I’d be happy to work on this with you. In fact, that’s why I wrote Becoming a Fearless Leader, which you can access for free.

Would you please take a moment to tell me about times when you were or were not intentional and the impact that this had on your life? Leave your comments below.
