Established words
“He who speaks truth declares righteousness, but a false witness deceit. There is one who speaks like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health. The truthful lip shall be established forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment," Proverbs 12:17-19.
To the wise of tongue,
One the last frontiers on the journey to an established life is the taming of the tongue. The reason for this is that the mouth speaks out of the abundance of what is in the heart (Matthew 12:34). Our words are a double-edged sword. On one side they reflect the present inner condition of the person speaking. On the other they steer the future course of our lives. That's why James 3 tells us that once we have tamed the tongue our whole life will be in line with the will of God.
When we yield our lives fully to God, our words become His words. We become beacons of truth, proclaiming to a dark world the reality of Jesus Christ. The power of this truth is this. Many people speak the gospel but their lives are far from lining up with the truth. Under pressure, their words reveal the true nature of what is in their heart. The person whose heart, footsteps, and character have been established in Christ speaks words that are a reflection of who he or she really is. His or her life is a confirmation that the words spoken are indeed truth. As Proverbs 12:17 says, they declare the righteousness of God.
Don't let your words be like the piercing of a sword. Your words can promote healing and life in your own life as well as in the lives of others. God can establish your words so none of them fall to the ground (1Samuel 3:19).
Until God graces me to share again,
