Double vision

“But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways," James 1:8.

“The lamp of the body is the eye, if therefore you eye is good, your whole body will be full of light," Matthew 6:22.

Dear focused one,

One problem that often occurs when we search for the place where we belong is that we want to belong too many places. To truly find the one place that we were created to fill we must be restricted from trying to fit in other places that might look good to us. Just as a good marriage partner “forsakes all others and cleaves,” so we must do to find our place in Christ. Devoting our primary love and passion to anything other than what Christ has called us to results in double-vision.

Double-vision is blurred and indistinct. It causes dizziness and confusion. It’s nearly impossible to run for the prize when your eyes are trying to focus on more than one thing. Double-vision causes double-mindedness. This causes instability. Entertaining conflicting thoughts and devotions can only result in eventual collapse.

Double-vision shows a lack of integrity. It reveals conflicting testimonies that confuse and frustrate those in association with us. Some may think that as frightening as blindness may be, that it’s a better alternative than blurry, double-vision.

We must be content to find only one place to belong. Our focus must be on Christ’s will alone. Our passion to be where He is must lead us to forsake all else to follow Him. This consistency will cause us to accomplish our purpose to our generation and will leave a clear testimony for others to follow.

Until God graces me to share again,

Randall Paul Pipes
