God's formula for success

“For He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in your weakness.’ Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong,” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10.

To those longing to succeed,

God’s thoughts and ways are directly opposed to our natural inclinations. From a humanistic viewpoint, the formula for success looks something like this:

my ability

+

experience

+

training

+

personality

+

determination

+

“good fortune”

God’s plan looks like this:

obedience to the voice of the Lord

+

my weakness

+

God’s supernatural ability

+

through my unique gifts and talents

Success

One of the greatest misconceptions in the modern day church is that God wants us to do something for Him. In actuality, He wants us to yield our abilities and talents to Him so He can do great things through us. This makes God an equal opportunity employer. Those who succeed the most in His Kingdom are not necessarily the most attractive, educated, athletic or prosperous. Those who will make the greatest impact are those who will let God be God through their lives. They are those who for better or worse, in poverty or riches, in sickness or in health yield the most to the awesome flow of His Spirit. Age, gender, race and socioeconomic status become secondary to the awesome glory of God waiting to be revealed through people who will let Him shine.
