Life circumstances, both painful and pleasant are like individual threads in the giant tapestry of our lives. Focusing on the thread will cause the pattern and beauty of the tapestry to be undiscovered. In the same way, getting too introspective will cause us to miss the beauty and reason we're alive.
Introspection comes naturally because each one of us is born into a world dominated by the effects of sin. Our earliest perceptions in life are tainted shades of God's true reality.
It's like wearing darkly tinted glasses. We can wear these filters so long that we don't even know they're there.
- Our perceptions formulate our thoughts
- Our thoughts are woven over time into belief systems
- Belief systems create the basis for our values
- Our values determine our actions.

Faulty perceptions cause us to make incorrect choices in life which place us in situations that God does not will for us.

There are two important truths that are often missed in life:

It's noble and great to be a responsible person but many people carry responsibilities imposed by other people...or even by themselves, that God does not want them to carry.

Life can be consumed by responsibilities that need to be juggled, along with urgent things and crisis management. If we're not careful, we can look more like human "doings" rather than human "beings" as we struggle to keep up with it all.
If this is you, then I'd like you to consider two important things. God doesn't want you to live this way and He has given us principles in the Bible to be free from this way of life.
The first is Jesus' commandment to love your neighbor as yourself. It seems right, and even godly to place everyone else ahead of yourself. But the truth is that you can only love other people as you have been loved.
In other words, it's accurate to say that God does not want us to be selfish. But trying to give someone else something that you have not first received is like trying to draw a bucket of cold water out of an empty well. All you are going to get it dirt. Though your intentions may be as sincere as can be, no one is going to be satisfied and they will keep screaming for more.
So the first thing I'd like to do is give you license to soak up as much of God's goodness for yourself as you can get. You'll learn lots more about this from the materials in my free Resource Center, especially in my book, Becoming all you were meant to be."
The second thing that I'd like you to consider is the principle that Jesus taught in Matthew 6:33. When we seek God's kingdom and righteousness first, all of these things will be added to us.
I don't have the space here to go into a long, drawn out explanation. Once again, these principles are taught in detail in materials you can find in my Resource Center like "Becoming all you were meant to be," and the CST Mentoring System.
Suffice it to say, however that God is the Master Designer of our lives, as well as of the universe. Though we think we know what needs to be done each day in order to keep up with our responsibilities, God knows things that we cannot possibly know without His assistance.
When we live life reactively to the need around us (or within us) rather than responding to God's instruction, we forfeit the unseen things that He wants to add to us. We lengthen and complicate our situations and don't even know that we are doing it.

God has always used ordinary people to do extraordinary things!

You were not designed to vague and insignificant. God created you for a life of specific impact and He desires to show you how to make it. He also wants to give you the wisdom and power to fully accomplish it.
Life purpose is very closely akin to influence. There's not much, if anything that we can carry into the next life except the influence that we had on other people while we were here.
We all have influence for good or for evil. We cannot help but influence others. Even people who isolate themselves exert their influence by robbing others of the contributions that they were supposed to give.
The question then is, "What is the source of our influence?" Are we influencing other people for or against the purposes of God?
Influence, like so many other things on earth grows with exercise. The more we use the more we get. The Bible also makes it clear that the more we have, the more we will be held accountable for.
So the truth is that you already have impact to the very degree that you have previously exercised your influence.
Our goal therefore should be twofold. First we should surrender our influence to the Lord. Second, we should become intentional about exercising it each day so that our spheres of influence will grow.
Obviously it's crucial that our exercise be in accordance with the plans and purposes of God. That's why understanding purpose is not really an option. Each one of us was placed here to make impact for God's glory. To accomplish God's will, we must first know what it is.

Did you know that God is not really looking for people to do things for Him? Instead, He is looking for people through whom He, Himself can touch the world. It may seem that I'm playing with semantics here, but the difference between these two experiences is like the difference between night and day!
Did you also know that God has a mentoring process that He outlines throughout the Bible that shows exactly how He progressively moves people more deeply into this way of life? When we understand this process we can cooperate with His Spirit more fully.
Whether you know it or not, the Spirit of God is working each day to draw you more fully into His purpose. I call this experience, God's "School of Purpose." Most people are not aware of what is happening and therefore don't know how to benefit from it.
Circumstance is allowed in your life each day that is designed to take you more deeply into the plans and purposes of God. These circumstances are tests, each giving you the opportunity to apply the truth that God has made available to you.
The more you know how this school works, and the more you understand your unique function within the school, the more accurately you'll be able to answer the questions on the test.
Some people fail and go through the same cycles in life over and over again. Others accelerate their growth and development by allowing God's Spirit to stretch them beyond the boundaries of where they've previously been.

The power of my ministry has been that I have learned to let God do things through me, instead of trying to do things for Him. I've escaped the heavy yoke of feeling like I have to perform for Him, or meet up to other people's expectations of me.
I've found freedom from the trap of "people pleasing," no longer living for the approval of others. God delivered me from a performance mentality...a mindset that believed that the harder I worked, the more I would be loved and accepted.
The principles in my resources have not only worked for me, many of the people I have worked with have successfully applied them as well
The truth in the resources that I have developed is not theory. It's been proven in my own life and then applied in the lives of countless others that I've worked with. The concepts that I share were born as my own frustration and disappointment drove me to God for answers.
As I alluded before, I struggled greatly with my own sense of identity and purpose earlier in my life. My career as a pastor also placed me in the position of needing to find practical answers for those who sought my help.
Each question drove me deeper into relationship with God and His Word. I found purpose in my own journey as I discovered answers to life's problems and the ability to help people through them. Before my resources were developed, the truths in them were proven through the fires of real-life experience. Everything that I've written and taught has worked well over the years for me.
My purpose in life is to help others discover and develop life purpose
Rick Warren's wonderful book, The Purpose Driven Life has made the concept of living purposefully mainstream over the past several years and has helped hundreds of thousands of people to be purposeful in a general sense.
When Rick's book came out it was a great encouragement to me and a confirmation to my work because I had been living and teaching the principles of life purpose for years.
My passion, however, is to go beyond teaching you how to understand God's purpose for mankind. I want to give you the tools to discover your own unique place in God's plan. I've been pioneering in this subject for well over a decade now.
People might call me a "professor of purpose" ...not because I have a P.H.D. but because I'm always teaching, declaring and professing the message of purpose.
Over the years I've developed a "School of Purpose" and over a hundred resources and services to help people understand and develop God's plan for their lives.
God has called me to be a life development specialist. I help people answer the question, "What was in the mind of the Maker when He made me?" My passion is to help people understand who they are, why they're here and what they are supposed to do about it!
